Writing adventure Part 2 – Free Blogs
Today we have our second video in our series about writing adventure. I will show you step by step how to turn the journal we created last week into a free blog.
So there are two options for creating a free blog. One is blogger.com and the other is tumblr.com.
Using these two options you can turn your writing adventures into real blogs with no money at all. It is easy to use and your kid will enjoy it. They will learn a lot as they go and could apply this in their learning in the future especially if they take the path of writing or blogging. There are many advantages your kids could learn from this free tool. Not only that they are learning to incorporate the art of writing, they also will learn a lot like design, color matching, style and a lot more. They can pick up many things to learn about as they go and as they grow older they can figure out what it is for and could even learn how to monetize it. And maybe, it will make them interested and will make themselves set a future goal to become a famous writer, designer or if they get more excited and curious about it they could even become your future software genius.
For your kids, if you want them to learn writing, this is the best way to start. It involves no money at all. They will also enjoy the fun of having someone see their work through the web exposure this platform has and the appreciation they’ll get could make them more interested in writing about everything else.
So setting up an account in blogger.com and tumblr.com is pretty straightforward. All you need is a working email address usually Gmail, and then use that email to sign up. The email address could be your own email as a parent because maybe at this point you are not yet allowing your child to browse everything on the internet on their own.
So you can go to this link to sign-up to blogger https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g#welcome
And here to sign-up for Tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/login?redirect_to=%2Fdashboard
You will be prompted to sign-up. So click the sign-up button then follow the simple instructions.
To create a blog in blogger, click the create blog button and a pop up will show. There is the Title, Address, and a Theme you can choose from.
In the address bar, it will ask you to buy a domain but you don’t really need a domain name for now because this is practice blog for your child and it will work fine. The same with Tumblr.
So the site name will be the name of the site your child will be writing on, so make sure it is something you and your child are comfortable with. You can put any name you want to use for the whole blogging performance. It could be the name of your child or anything you like. It would also be more organized if you have the same web address with Tumblr and Blogger if you plan on using both.
The signing up process on Tumblr is as easy as Blogger. So once you’ve signed up you and your child are now ready to start blogging.
This is a great way to save your child’s work.
You can follow more about setting up your account and creating your first post on the video tutorial above.
